Plant dismantling in the Shell refinery in Hamburg

Client TVF Altwert GmbH, Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH
Project location Hohe-Schaar-Strasse, Hamburg, D
Key figures tonnage 230 tons of steel
Service Consulting, safety concept and dismantling and dismantling planning
Period 2011 - 2012

As part of ongoing modernisation work, a polymerisation plant had to be dismantled at the Shell refinery in the port of Hamburg. In the middle of the refinery site, the 40-metre-high steel structure was dismantled under particularly stringent occupational health and safety requirements – and in a compartmentalised way. The confined space and the ongoing operations meant that this complex dismantling and transport arrangement was the only option. We developed the safety concept for this dismantling on behalf of the dismantling company Thyssen-VEAG Flächenrecycling (TVF) and in cooperation with the responsible project manager at Shell, which was a prerequisite for the approval of the dismantling work in this potentially explosive refinery area. The work was carried out according to plan without any incidents.
