A HARD WAY: SAYING GOODBYE

In the Perinatal Center Altona, the maternity ward of the Asklepios Klinik Altona works together with the neonatology department of the Altona Children's Hospital. In order to be able to take care of the children, some of them were born very young, an expansion / restructuring of the neonatology department is necessary. Despite all the caring care and state-of-the-art medical care, the smallest of the little ones are unfortunately not yet viable and the parents have to let them go.

...

For this difficult path, we have created a farewell room in the Perinatal Center Altona, which gives families the opportunity to withdraw in a protected and secure atmosphere to find silence, to talk, to pause and to say goodbye to the child in a circle of relatives and friends in a dignified setting. Rituals which are important to families and relatives can take place here and could be accompanied by psychologists, nursing staff or pastors.

We hope that we have created the opportunity for parents, relatives and employees to say goodbye to their children with dignity and thus to be able to support the infinitely difficult path of mourning and letting go.
